#1 FEED YOUR SKIN - A glowing complexion comes from the inside out – it’s about your physical and emotional health. Protein is very important – the amino acids really assist with skin growth and repair. Adding good fats to your diet is also essential. Taking care of stress levels, how happy you are, your intake of caffeine and alcohol – it all plays a role in that glow.
#2 LESS IS MORE - I like to keep things simple. For me, it’s all about nourishing your insides to see the benefits on the outside. It’s about taking care of my gut, my liver, my stress levels and of course, the foods that I eat. I am always mindful about my diet as I know it impacts my skin dramatically. I use the Burt’s Bees 100% natural Facial Cleansing Oil and Burt’s Bees Intense Hydration Day Lotion – but that’s it! If I notice a blemish, I use Apple Cider Vinegar on a cotton pad and dab it on gently.
#3 THE GOOD FATS - Incorporate good fats into your diet: Oily fish (salmon, sardines, anchovies), avocado and nuts and seeds. These are full of Omega-3 fatty acids which are responsible for the health of our skin at a cellular level.
#4 KEEP IT NATURAL - I have a holistic approach to skin health – it’s about your physical and emotional wellbeing. My philosophy is to keep it as natural as possible – because it’s all about what happens on the inside, what you put in your body as much as it is what you use on the outside. What appears on your skin is often a result of what’s going on inside – stress, hormones, gut and nutrition – it all plays a part. I’m also conscious of using things that are unnatural and that the body can’t break down, like chemicals and parabens. It places an extra load on your system that shows up immediately on your skin!
#5 ROUTINE - Find and stick to a good skin care routine: Use moisturiser and be careful to use a gentle cleanser that doesn’t strip your skin of its natural oils. Burt’s Bees facial skincare line is one of my favourites as their general skincare philosophy is to work in harmony with the skin’s natural rhythms – not altering, but respecting them – I find this keeps my skin feeling healthy, balanced and radiant.
